aromatherapy massage

For our aromatherapy massage, we use essential oils blended into a base or carrier oil to help generate healing in the whole body.

Combining essential oils with massage gives a deeply pleasurable and nurturing experience and an effective way of promoting healing that can benefit everyone. As the oils are absorbed into your skin to nourish and support your physical wellbeing, their beautiful aromas help you relax and deepen your breath, instilling a deep sense of calm.

Through aromatherapy we can improve our physical, mental and emotional health. Because essential oils can be absorbed through the skin, massage is a safe and lovely way of introducing them into the body.

Each essential oil has its own distinctive profile and therapeutic and energetic properties. They’re selected to work in synergy with your presenting needs on the day. Odour perception is a very personal thing, so we collaborate with you to choose the oils that you love the smell of, as well as have those therapeutic actions needed for you at that time.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are fragrant volatile liquids that occur naturally in plants. They’re extracted from the different plant parts; flowers, leaves, roots, bark and fruits. The oils are the ‘essence’ of that particular plant and are responsible for giving the plant its unique scent. Essential oils blends can be prescribed as an inhaler, or as a blend in a carrier oil for use in the bath or for self-massage, or to add to a compress for continued self-care at home.

How do they work?

When inhaled, the essential oil scent molecules travel from the olfactory nerves in your nose directly to the limbic system in your brain. The limbic system is the seat of our survival instincts and responses, as well as our emotions and memories in the brain.

Because essential oil molecules are so tiny, they are able to penetrate the skin through our pores, hair follicles and sweat glands. From there they reach lymph nodes and blood capillaries, which then transport them throughout the body via the circulatory system.
